My friends are coming to visit for my birthday!
You already know I'm planning the itinerary, right?
There's this play I want to see at the Black Rep.
And there's Waterfire that night.
And we gotta find a cool restaurant for my pre-birthday/ birthday weekend dinner.
Oh, this is gonna be great!

Wondering what a T-Dot wants for her birthday?
UPDATED!!!
Wonder no more.
It's getting to be about that time. So, here, in no particular order, is the requisite list of potential birthday gifts for you, my adoring friends, fans and otherwise...
Just a reminder to get those gifts, cards and other symbols of love in the mail early to ensure timely arrival.
And as always, I'm open to new things. It's my mid-20s birthday. So I'm looking for anything to make it special.

- Visits from friends
- Replacement copies of CDs I've lost over the years, or wouldn't mind having for the first time: Fugees "the score," Lauryn hill "Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," Miles Davis "Kind of Blue," Estelle "Estelle," Prince "Purple Rain," (or really any good Prince compilation or CD); N.E.R.D. "Seeing Sounds," Beyonce "B-Day," Santogold "Santogold," Raphael Saadiq's new album and anything else you think I might enjoy.
- Gift cards to any of the following stores: Banana Republic (preferably the three in one gift card that can be used at BR, Gap or Old Navy), Sephora, Nordstrom's, Aldo, J.Crew, Express, and anywhere else you think I might enjoy
- Perfume -- Still looking for a signature scent, but I enjoy the original scent by Kenzo and I'm up to try new things. I like clean, light, fresh scents. Nothing too overpowering
- Spa Day -- last year, I went here and got a Swedish massage. Heaven. I'll take any spa services from any reputable day spa in the Providence or greater Boston area.
- Flowers -- I like having things delivered to my job. It makes me feel loved. Plus, it ensures that I'll actually get it because I'm never home to accept deliveries at my apartment.
- My hair done -- a style at the salon I go to runs about $60. Feel free to treat me.
- Clothes -- trying to up my chic, stylish swagger. So the above gift cards are appreciated, as would be any fashion finds you may stumble upon. If you're interested, let me know and I'll send you my size (errybody don't need to know that info).
- Tickets to the theater -- I love good plays but I haven't been in ages.
Again, theaters and shows in the Providence and greater Boston area are a go. - A bottle of that wine that Aaron and I had at P.F. Chang's in Chicago (I don't remember what it was called, but it was a Cali wine.)
- Talk Soap lip gloss in Soledad; Chanel glossimer (Veronica likes it, so why not?); or really, a gift certificate to Sephora -- I need to step up my makeup game to highlight my sexy.
- A nice outing or dinner so I can wear this festive orange silk dress I bought from Banana Republic, but never got to wear, for NABJ.
- I'm loving these right now.
- And I do live in New England. So I'm considering a pair of these or these
I can't think of anything else, but I'm sure that'll change. I'll add to the list as I see fit.

How do you celebrate 25 years of life?
I turn 25 in roughly 54 days (don't clown, my calendar numbers the days left in the year).
Problem is, I don't know what I want to do.
So, this birthday is a pretty big one. Yet, I'm not as excited as I was for y birthday last year.
The BF mentioned this the other day. We were at dinner and he brought my birthday up. Then he came to his senses:
"What's up? This time last year, I'd been told your birthday was coming at least 2 months ago."
Iano. Just not as excited.
Last year, I was just amped. I had a banging roller skate party, went to dinner at a swanky restaurant and had a fantastic time.
This year, all I really want is to be around some friends on my birthday. But it's a double edged sword: if I invite a bunch of people up, I'll have to entertain them.
Did I mention I live in Rhode Island? Yeah.
So I don't really want that added stress of trying to entertain people. But really, I would love it if everyone could be in my living room and we just chill and watch movies and play games or something lame like that.
I thought about visiting friends, but all of my buddies are spread out, so i'd have to choose one friend to spend my 25th birthday with -- and that kinda sucks. If somehow, all of my friends could move to Philadelphia or somewhere like that, that'd be awesome (I like cheesesteaks). Plus, I could visit you all at the same time.
Sigh. But I don't think that will happen in 54 days.
So why am I writing this?
Really? I need to steal some ideas. What did you do for your 25th birthday? Details, people -- I need details! Because really, right now, I'm at a loss.
And that's no way to celebrate a quarter century of life.

That's Cash
What do you get when you take this?

And add this?
My dear friends, you get my birthday dinner outfit. Scroll down for the finished product.
The week of my 24th anniversary of birth was fantastic. Absolutely frigging fantastic. It started with a holiday -- one where I actually got the day off (huzzah!) -- so that was great. I went to go see Ratatouille in a theatre full of little kids. (it was the $2 show so it was worth it.) The movie was actually decent. The animation was a little life-like though. And when I thought about the idea of a rat making my fine dining, it almost made me want to throw up.
After the movie, my friend and I headed over to East Providence Lanes ($4 on Mondays!) where I spanked him in 10 pin. I got the best score of my life: 167. I'm talking strike, spare, strike, strike, spare, spare, 5, strike, strike. It was ridiculous. I even had the clerk print out the score because I knew no one would believe me.
The rest of the week was cool, too. My friend surprised me with a book I've been wanting with this elaborate scheme at my job. Basically, I got punked. He had one of my coworkers let him into the building and then they played out this skit where they said there was a press conference I was late for. When I came up to the office assistant's desk to pick up a packet of info, instead, I got the book and my friend jumped out from behind a pole. I screamed. Like a little girl. He got me good.
Thursday, after work, I got all fancified in my birthday dinner outfit and headed here to meet Julian for dinner. He got mad cool points for this one. i told him I wanted to dress up for my birthday because, as a Hamptonian, I felt I was slacking on my outfit game. The northeast is extremely casual and I was afraid that I was losing my Hampton swagger, as understated as it might be. So he obliged and took me to this swanky spot.
Here's how the entire outfit came together. I wore black slingback pointy toe pumps and a cinched taffeta-esque clutch purse.

The restaurant, which is supposed to have the best view in Boston, was kind of a bust. I had the lamb. He had the chicken. His was better. It rained that night so on t he 56th floor of the Prudential center, that view is obscured by fog. I told my waiter I'd like a rain check on the view. He laughed. Nothing was funny, but he laughed anyway.
Afterward, it was still mad early, so we milled around Cambridge, before shunning a few bars and lounges and ending up in a Wal-greens in Dorchester. All I wanted was some hot apple cider. They didn't have any, so I got a ginger ale and Julian got ice cream. "It's your birthday," he said. "You gotta have ice cream or cake or something." Eh, I suppose.
I rang in my birthday on his couch, watching ESPN. Sounds sucky, but it was actually pretty cool.
The next day, Friday, I had the day off. Leave it to a black woman to take her birthday off like it's a national holiday or something. Nah, seriously, I worked Sunday night, so I got a day off in the week as an exchange. I coulda taken Tuesday off, but then I'd be working on my birthday. So I just took Friday off and chilled.
The day began with a massage at my girl's spa. I opted for the Swedish massage. Thanks so much for all of your suggestions, but I made the right decision. PURE HEAVEN. Yes, it was a little weird to be stripped down to my skivvies and having a semi pudgy white man rub me down, but after I got over the initial nervous laughter, it was the single most relaxing experience I've ever had. The hour wasn't enough. I'm saying: I need to be like Paris Hilton or Beyonce or somebody so I can just get one of these joints every week. For anybody looking to get me a Christmas present (or belated birthday present) I take massages. Holla at me.
The spa is in the mall, so I exchange a present I'd gotten a few days before for a larger size. I'm still excited, still relaxed, still on the high from my massage. But then I head to Gap to use a coupon. Worst decision I made.
I asked the clerk to pull up my credit card number because I didn' t have the plastic on me. Cats couldn't find my number. Turns out it was a technicality on Gap's part, but the process took like 20 minutes and raised my stress level to 10. As I walked out with my purchases, I could feel those knots forming on my shoulder blades.
For the rest of the day, I tried to recapture my serene feeling from earlier. I went and got my eyebrows done, went and put some stuff at the tailor, then came home, sat quietly and watched Babel while I ate spaghetti. Good times. That night, I went to church, got some presents and then closed out my birthday at my favorite pizza spot on Federal Hill with a few of my friends. Good times, indeed.

The next day, I chilled until that evening, when my birthday extravaganza began. I -- yes I --- planned my own birthday function. I gathered a bunch of my friends and said 'hey, let's go roller skating.' So we did. I'm getting tired of typing so I won't belabor the point, but the skating joint was supposed to be 18 and up. It wasn't. But it was cool. Skated. Didn't fall. Had a blast. Went to play pool afterward. Stayed out until 2:30 a.m. Got up the next morn and went to church. After service, I came home and fell out on my living room couch.
That, dear friends, was my birthday week in a nutshell. I had lots of well wishes, some other presents and a few surprises in between, but I had a great week overall.

Sooo, I found my outfit.
I'll post pics later, but here's the idea: banana republic black dress, drapey at the top, kinda cinched at waist, knee length (from last season) with a white (off white) shirt from banana that's like, gathery at the bottom and ties, so you can make it as loose or tight as you want it.
And I scheduled my massage. I have a swedish massage scheduled for 11:45 on my birthday.
Oh Joy.
Now only one question remains: How do I wear my hair? Sigh. Guess my level of get up and go tonight after work will determine if I'm rocking the fro, the puff, or a twist out. Don't fret -- I'll post pics of the finished product this weekend.

Help!
Hey guys,
Friday is my 24th birthday (maturity, here I come!) and I need some suggestions.
Dilemma #1: I'm going out on a date to celebrate on Thursday. I have nothing to wear.
I need a dress. Something nice, but not like, cocktail hour nice. Just a "hey, that's a cute outfit and I bet it's your birthday" kind of dress. I have plenty of shoes so I can work that out anyway you slice it.
But suggestions on cuts? Fits? fabrics? Stores I should look into?
Dilemma #2: I need help choosing a spa service.
A friend of mine who owns a Spa here gave me a gift certificate a while back. I'm going to use it on my birthday as a present to myself (via her). Problem is, I have never been to a spa and I have no clue which service to use. I'm almost positive I want a massage (I've never gotten a real one) but I don't know which to choose. Hot stone? Deep Tissue? Swedish? Back, neck and shoulder?
In the grand scheme of things, I guess these are good dilemmas to have. But they're dilemmas nonetheless! HELP ME! please.
